Coaches' Corner

Congratulations to all Armada swimmers who competed in this past weekend's meet @BCC Sharks, it was a great meet!

The coaching staff can't believe we are already down to the last week of the season, a bittersweet feeling! It has been so awesome watching our swimmers' growth this year through their hard work and dedication to themselves and this team. We want to take a second also to acknowledge the parents, your dedication to this team and the community doesn't go unnoticed, without y'all there is no Armada, so THANK YOU! Now as mentioned above we still have one more week, so don't shed those tears just yet!

This week other than our "Final Fun Friday" we coaches will be trying to up the intensity at all practices as much as we can to help swimmers make any final pushes to any goals they may have set for themselves for this season, so buckle up, it's going to be a great week of practice!

Focuses for this week...

- Proper finishing

- Endurance/Strength

- Starts/Turns

Meet Theme: USA/Armada pride

Luckily our team colors (Red and Blue) are close enough to USA colors we can celebrate our team AND the 4th of July in one meet!

Divisional Meet

Division 4 Championship - Sat. 6/29

by: Catherine Kamenicky, Meet Director

Our Division 4 Championship meet is Saturday against our friends from Balcones Country Club Sharks, Pflugerville Piranhas and Rattan Creek Hurricanes. The Division meet will run longer than a normal meet so please plan accordingly - lots of water and sunscreen!

We need ALL our eligible swimmers to sign up!

The old adage that every swimmer matters to the team is truer than ever at the Divisional meet, where depth matters even more.

Scratch: After we close the meet online, please email or text Catherine or DJ, our Meet Director & Assistant Meet Director ([email protected] or 956-802-2253, [email protected] or 512-296-6068) if you have to scratch.

Key Information:

Location: Gilleland Creek Pool, 700 Railroad Ave. Pflugerville, 78660
Theme: USArmada prideTeam Spirit!!
Arrive/Check In: 5:15 am WBA Warm Ups: 5:50-6:20 am (Lanes 1-4)
Meet Starts: 7:00 am Judges & Timers Meetings 6:45 Timers Lane 1 block
Judges Lane 8 block

Meet Set-up: Friday, June 28th at 7:00 pm & Saturday, June 29th at 4:45 am
If you signed up as part of the setup team for your volunteer assignment, or if you'd like to lend an extra hand, please be at the pool by 7:00 pm on Friday, and at the Pflugerville pool by 4:45 am on Saturday.

Parking: Please allow extra time to find parking. Late arrival could result in your swimmer being scratched from their relay. The paved lot next to the pool will be on a first come first serve basis.  There are several additional parking options when this lot fills up (see below). DO NOT park on Railroad Ave, you will be towed. DO NOT park on the neighborhood surface streets.  You will be allowed to drop off swimmers and belongings next to the pool in the waiting area, there will be bleachers here for families to wait for the driver to return. Pflugerville is asking that you drop off as many people as possible, so the shuttle only has drivers to bring back to the pool. Please also carpool where possible.

Parking options (listed closest walking distance to the pool):

Gilleland Creek Pool Parking Lot (first come first serve):

Lions Club Parking Lot:

The Lions Club is next door just south of the pool. We are allowed to park in the grass area and the north side of the paved lot. Then you can take the sidewalk north to the pool. Please DO NOT park on the South Side of the paved lot.

First United Methodist Church Back Parking Lot:

This lot will feel like it is further away than other options, but the walking path under Railroad is actually closer than other options. The path is paved the whole way and leads directly to the pool. (I think there will also be a shuttle, but I'm not positive)

Brookhollow Elementary School:

This lot is 1/2 mile north of the pool. They are planning on running a shuttle from 5:30-8:30 and during the freestyle relays and 20 mins following the end of the meet. They will call the shuttle driver should you need to return to the car sometime during the meet.

Overflow Parking across the street from Brookhollow:

If Brookhollow's lot fills up, then use the overflow parking across the street, this area is not paved. The shuttle will not pick up from this lot until the paved lot is full.

Park Crest Middle School (very last option):

If all these options fill up, use the Park Crest Middle School lot, it is another .4 mile north of Brookhollow. The shuttle will then run to this location.

Swimmer Pits: Parents, kindly remember that the swimmers need to STAY in the swimmer pits. The pit parents are responsible for organizing and bringing the kids to the ready bench in time for their races. This Saturday's meet will have double or more the amount of kids and our swimmers need to be organized and on time. If kids need to leave the pit area, parents MUST inform the pit parents.

Our pits will be located behind the pool (west side) just outside and south of the gate. Please stay 5ft off of the Gilleland Creek Trail that runs along the side of the pool to allow for public use. Also, there is a creek just on the other side of the trail, PLEASE keep all swimmers and children out of the creek.

Spectator Seating:

All parent seating is outside the pool area, no camp chair or tents are allowed inside the pool fence. You may also set up at the pavilion just outside the pit areas. The seating inside the pool area is short term only. Please watch your swimmer and then exit the pool area promptly.

Clean Up: We ask everyone to clean up the pit areas before they leave. We want to be respectful guests. The more people who help, the sooner everyone can leave. Pit parents should not release swimmers until their area is restored.

Time Restrictions & Meet Outline:

The pool area will not open until 5:30 am, and our warm ups will start in lanes 1-4 at 5:50 am. The city will open the pool to the public at 3:00 pm, which means we must be out of the water at 2:45 pm, but can continue tearing down after that.  There is a noise ordinance that prohibits use of the PA system until 7:00am, so PLEASE report to your meetings and positions without announcements.

5:50-6:20 WBA warm-ups lanes 1-4

6:35 Relay changes due to the computer table

6:45 Judges & Timers meetings behind lane 8 & lane 1 starting blocks respectively, all ready bench volunteers to the ready bench area, all 1st shift volunteers to their posts. NO ANNOUNCEMENTS WILL BE MADE, CHECK YOUR WATCHES/SET AN ALARM

6:45-6:55 1st, 2nd, & 3rd calls to the ready bench for events 1-3, 1st & 2nd call for events 4 & 5

7:00 Event 1 on the blocks/National Anthem

7:03 Meet Starts

There will be 3 shifts and 2 breaks; Shift 1 Events 1-31, Break 1 Aging Out Swimmers Fun Relays, Shift 2 Events 32-57, Break 2 6U High Point Awards Ceremony, and Shift 3 Events 68-87.  The High Point Award Ceremony for the remaining age groups will take place under the pavilion. Families should take the shuttles back to their cars and then drive them back to the pool so they can park in the pool lot while they attend the ceremony.

There is an event order change in order to allow the 6U swimmers time to rest between their breast stroke and butterfly events. 6U butterfly will move to after the 11-12 breast stroke.

They will have concessions and merchandise available for purchase during the meet.

If you have questions, please don't hesitate to reach out.

Final Fun Friday-June 28

Howdy everyone!!! Are you ready for the last week of swim for the 2024 season? I have to admit, I am, BUT I am super excited about my favorite tradition on our team: FINAL FUN FRIDAY! Hopefully, everyone has received my 2 emails explaining each relay and the general flow of the day. I do need a couple things from y'all. PLEASE sign up to help either pick up ice, or run the sno cone machine, or set up or tear down. It will really help me out a lot in keeping things moving that day. If you look at the different relays and can help supply some of the items, please let me know. (Particularly big floats for the floatie relay.)

Also, I need all my parent relay participants to let me know if they will be there. We need to defend our title against those coaches! Plus, I bought a cool new trophy to covet!

Remember this day is for EVERY family member, bring your suits and goggles, and get ready to swim! If you have ANY questions, please reach out. See you at the pool!

Catherine
