Wells Branch Armada

The Wells Branch Armada is a competitive, summer league swim team offering high-quality professional coaching and technique instruction for kids ages 4-17. The goal of our team is to provide every member an opportunity to improve swimming skills and achieve success at his or her level of ability, from novice to international competitor.

Our team is fun, the races are short distances, and our athletes learn to become better swimmers. Our program focuses on teaching competitive elements of swimming including proper stroke technique, starts, and turns.

The WB Armada was established in 1989. It is run by its elected Board of Directors which meets each month. We average around 200 swimmers a year.

Swimmer Expectations: Participants should be able to swim the length of the pool (25 yards) unassisted prior to the first day of practice and take direction from our coaching staff. Younger swimmers (6 & under) should be comfortable in the water. *Swimmers must not have turned 18 yrs. old before May 1.

The Wells Branch Armada is not a learn-to-swim program or group swim lessons, nor do we have the ability to assign a coach to each swimmer. Swim lessons are available through the Wells Branch MUD Learn to Swim Program. 

Does my swimmer need to know all of the swimming strokes?
No. Your swimmer only needs to have the stamina to swim 25 yards. Our practice program is designed to acquaint and teach young swimmers proper strokes and introduce the training required for today's competitive swimming. Emphasis is placed on learning the proper stroke, start and turn techniques as well as the improvement of each swimmer’s "personal best" time in each event.

Schedule:  Our season runs approximately 10 weeks from May thru early-to the end of June.  Practices and Home meets are located at the Wells Branch Willow Bend Pool (2801 Sauls Dr. Austin, TX 78728). 

Practices: Specific practice times are listed under the Schedule tab under Practices. In May, practices start in the evening between 4:30 and 8:00 pm beginning. Once school is out, practice times switch to mornings between 7:15 and 11:30 am due to the availability of the pool. 

Coaches: Our coaching staff is excellent, professional, and fun! One thing special about the Armada is that our head coaches and most of our assistant coaches grew up as Armada swimmers! In addition, our team involves our older swimmers as Junior Coaches (starting at age 14) to help further support our younger swimmers.  

Saturday Swim Meets:  We will have swim meets each Saturday (approximately eight meets) morning beginning mid-May. (An adult from each swimmer’s family is required to volunteer for one or possibly two shifts during each swim meet your child swims). Northwest Swim Circuit (NWSC). We are member of the NWSC, 13 team league in the Austin area. Our season lasts 10 weeks, beginning the first week of May through the last weekend in June. We swim approximately eight meets per season on Saturday mornings against other swim teams in the Austin area. 

Our first meet is an Armada-only "practice meet". We then swim 6 meets on against other NWSC swim teams in the Austin area. The last meet is a Divisional championship meet at the completion of our season. Lastly, swimmers who obtained a qualifying time during the season will be invited to compete at an Invitational Swim Meet at the close of the season. 

The objectives of the NWSC are to help young swimmers develop physical fitness, self-discipline, self-confidence, proficiency in competitive swimming strokes, a determination to do one's best, good sportsmanship, and to provide an enjoyable summer activity for all its members.

We are a 501c3 nonprofit and receive zero financial support from any public agency. Registration fees, fundraising projects and donations from civic-minded businesses and professionals cover our expenses.
