by Peter Mielcarek, President
Greetings Armada Families! What an eventful tri-meet we had last Saturday at the Round Rock pool!! Thank you to all of you that hung in there and waited out the weather. Once the worst of the storm passed over us we were able to get back in the pool and finish all of the individual events! I know that the weather delay made tear-down a little more hectic than a normal meet, but our tear-down crew as well as all those people that helped them did a fantastic job of getting all the tents and equipment packed quickly. This week is our last dual meet of the season against the Hurricanes, and luckily it is another home meet!!!!
As a reminder there are several events coming up as we start to round out the end of another amazing season. For starters, the Wells Branch July 4th Fest will be next week; more information from me to come. Our next Spirit Night will be on July 10th from 5pm-9pm at Hat Creek Burger in Round Rock off of Highway 79. There are a few other events that are also around the corner, so make sure to read the rest of the newsletter to see when they are. Swim-A-Thon funds are due on June 30th. Board members will collect folders during all swim practices, and there is also a file in the Board/Coaches box that is next to the family file folders, where you can turn in your Swim-A-Thon envelopes. See y’all at the pool this week!

Here we are in the final stretch of our 2017 season. These final three weeks will be awesome and filled with a lot of swimming and team events! I’d like to begin by thanking everyone who came out for the meet this weekend when we traveled to Round Rock. We many fantastic swims including huge time drops, a lot of exciting finishes and Coach Tucker's record being broken!.
Swimmers, you all have accomplished so much over the past 8 weeks! Please take time to look back at what you’ve learned, improved on and the goals you’ve met. As your coaches and parents watch from the side of the pool we cannot be more proud of you and the awesome swimmers and friends you are. We are so fortunate to look back not only at this past season but, for the entire time we’ve known you and see all you’ve done and then look forward to all you will do. This season has proved once again that Armada is more than just a swim team. We are friends and family that help, support and cheer for one another from the sidelines.
Please feel free to email any questions or stop me at the pool. I am happy to help in any way I can. Thanks!

Armada vs Hurricanes - July 1 (Home)
Our final home meet is this Saturday against the Rattan Creek Hurricanes. Please arrive on time. Late arrival could result in your swimmer being scratched from their relay. Allow extra time for parking.
Scratch: Once we close the meet online, email email@example.com, or text to 512-659-1373 if you have to scratch.

Meet Set-up: Friday, June 30th at 8:00 pm.
Clean Up: We ask everyone to clean up the pit and pool areas before they leave. We must return the pool area to its original condition. The more people who help, the sooner everyone can leave. Pit parents should not release swimmers until their area is restored.
Location: Willow Bend Pool
Parking: Friendly reminder for home meets - the parking lot adjacent to our pool is for our guest team. Additional parking will be along Sauls and Crissom next to the pool and at the elementary school, and on the street along Long Vista. Please do NOT park along Bratton or in any of the parking lots for businesses you see along Bratton and Long Vista, as you will risk being towed. There will be overflow parking at the Rec Center on Shoreline Dr., but it is a small hike from there to the pool.
Please allow extra time to find a place to park and potentially walk a fair distance to the pool. You may also wish to drop swimmers off and then go find parking.
Scholarship Applications - Due June 30
Applicants: Please complete the application and return it and all necessary paperwork to my Board file box, Brenda Pinkston (Secretary), on or before the June 30th deadline. (Please reuse the envelope that your application came in so all paperwork stays together.) Once you have completed and turned in the paperwork to my box, please send me a quick text to let me know.
Applications will be reviewed by a scholarship committee and recipients will be announced at our end of the year banquet.
If you or your swimmer have any questions, please feel free to contact me at 512-994-7939. Congrats to your seniors and best of luck to everyone!

Coach Appreciation Day Thursday July 6
We will be celebrating and thanking our coaching staff for their hard work this season during practices on Thursday, July 6th! On the morning of the 6th, we will have a “buffet style” table set up with breakfast items and snacks for the Coaches and Junior Coaches. Please feel free to add any food items you’d like to donate. Individual fruit cups/bags and watermelon slices are always a big hit!
We have also compiled a list of "Favorite Things" from each of the Coaches and Jr. Coaches - helpful if you are looking for gift ideas for your child's coach. There will be a binder out at practices with this information and we've also included a link on the home page.
For your convenience, we have listed the names of each coach below to aid your swimmer in remembering the coaches that have helped them along the way. Pictures are also available by clicking on the “Coaches” and “Junior Coaches” link provided below.

We will be working on Spirit Items for our Division 4 Championship meet held on Saturday, July 8th at Rattan Creek. Stop by and show our swimmers your support and creativity! Items will be kept and hung around the tents at Divisionals.
We'll also enjoy some "POPular" cool treats after each of the practices this day so be sure to attend!
End of Season Meets - Reminders
High Point Earners
Just a friendly reminder that the Armada has a requirement that anyone receiving the high point award has swum all individual events offered for their age group for which they do not have to "swim up." To qualify, events must be swum at dual meets where points may be earned (ie, not at the Red, White, and Blue meet, nor at Divisionals). Please note that the swimmer must have attempted the event in a dual meet, but need not have obtained a legal time (so if DQ'd, that counts as their attempt). Also, events entered at the rained out meet also count as their attempt, provided the swimmer is listed on the official attendance report. .
This policy is discussed in detail in this FAQ.
Divisionals and Invitationals Meets
Please also keep in mind that to swim at our end-of-season Divisional meet, a swimmer must swim in two dual meets AND have a legal time in each event they enter at this meet. We really need as many of our swimmers as possible to enter the Divisional meet. Swimmers that are not usually point earners may earn points at the Divisional meet, as points are awarded for places 1-8.
Also, please remember that it is an Armada team rule that a swimmer who wishes to swim in the Invitational Meet must swim at the Divisional meet.
We appreciate your cooperation with the above requirements, which we feel emphasize the team nature of this mostly individual team sport.
2018 Armada Board
Are you interested in serving on the 2018 Armada Board?
As many of you know, Wesley Freeman has relocated out of state leaving a vacant spot on the Board and Volunteer Coordinator Extraordinaire!
Our meets cannot run as smoothly as they do without this critical position being filled. Please consider throwing your name in the hat to be a part of an incredible board and extended family.
Contact Trish Koester, Nominating Committee Chair, with your interest and or questions about what it means to serve on the Armada Board.
