Captain's Log

by Paul Wadehra, Meet Director

Thanks to everyone for a very smooth meet on Saturday. Our swimmers swam very well in a close meet with the Sharks, a divisional opponent.

We have now finished our three week "road trip," and this week we are back at home to host the Hurricanes. See below for meet details.

Just a reminder, whether you are participating in the meet or not, you still need to register on line to let us know. Thanks!

Coach's Corner

by Gina Zayas, Head Coach

I left the meet Saturday feeling extremely proud of our team after another awesome performance!  As a whole, we swam our best and dropped time in every event.  We had several heat winners and numerous time improvements.  One of my most favorite things to see is the big smiles after you swim an event or the way you cheer on your teammates.  Swimmers, you amaze the coaches each week with your confidence, perseverance and determination!

We have two official dual meets left before the Divisional swim meet.  Swimmers, I encourage you to try an event you haven’t done yet this season.  You never know which events might end up being your favorite. A new feature to the meet sign up is an option to leave a note for the coach. This is a great way to let me know which events are your first, second and third choice or if you are trying to qualify in a certain event.

Thank you to the board and the parents for supporting our team and making this all possible.  I know there is so much that goes on behind the scenes to make the season successful and I thank you for all you do.

Have a great week!

Volunteer Spot

by Nancy Brieger, Volunteer Coordinator

Thank you to all the volunteers at the Balcones meet! We are especially thankful for those of you who were so helpful and flexible at last Saturday’s meet, jumping in and covering last minute & multiple needs!

A couple of reminders:

If you need to leave a meet early, do not sign up to be a pit parent. Pit Parent is a FULL MEET position (except for the 6 & Unders) and it is very difficult on everyone if a pit parent leaves early.

Also, I really appreciate those of you who check in at the volunteer table on meet mornings to see what positions need to be filled. If you were not able to sign up for a position in the system for a meet, you should email me and/or check in the morning of the meet. There are always needs and you still need to meet your family’s obligation of volunteering at least half a meet each week that your child is in the meet.

It will be wonderful to be back at our own pool these next weeks, but that means many more volunteers are needed!

Thank you for all your dedication to make swim meets smooth and fun for our kids!

Meet Set-up
Friday, June 20 at 8:00 pm

Meet setup will start at 8:00 pm for this meet. We must move all tables and chairs and put out ready benches, ropes and the announcer tables. If you signed up as part of the setup team for your volunteer assignment, or if you'd like to lend an extra hand, please be at the pool then.

The morning of the meet, we need help setting up pop-up tents around the pool. We appreciate all the help we can get putting these tents up and taking them down at the end of the day.

Clean Up

We ask everyone to clean up the pit and pool areas before they leave. We must return the pool area to its original condition. The more people who help, the sooner everyone can leave. Pit parents should not release swimmers until their area is restored.

Parking

At a home meet, Armada families park in the unpaved lot across the street from the pool, leaving the lot adjacent to the pool for our guest team. Please follow instructions from the parking attendants for everyone's safety. Drive slowly and watch for people crossing the street.

Please respect the "no parking" signs where posted.

WBA Board Nomination Committee - VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

The Wells Branch Armada Board has positions that need to be filled for the 2015 swim season. Anyone willing to put in the time and effort may run for the Board. In an effort to maintain a good balance of interests and strengths among Board members, an independent committee will make recommendations for 2015; however, positions are open and anyone may run.

The Board Nomination Committee will consist of one current or non-returning Board member and two other parents that do not serve on the Board. No person that serves on the Board Nomination Committee is eligible to recommend themselves or a family member for the 2015 Board. If you would like to serve on the committee, please email board@wbarmada.org or bennean7@gmail.com.

Coach Appreciation Day

We will be celebrating and thanking our coaching staff for their hard work this season on Thursday, June 26th.

Last week, Nancy sent out an email with an attached file titled “Coaches Favorite Things.” The file contained a sheet with each coach's and junior coach's favorite things, in case you need some gift ideas for your child’s coach.

We will post new versions here and on our website as coaches update their favorite things, but to protect the coaches' privacy, you will need to be signed in to view the file.

Homemade thank you cards are also enjoyed and appreciated!

Please contact Nancy Brieger with questions.

Thank you!

End of Season Meets - Reminders

Hi Armada Parents and Swimmers!

High Point Earners
Just a friendly reminder that the Armada has a requirement that anyone receiving the high point award has swum all individual events offered for their age group for which they do not have to "swim up." To qualify, events must be swum at dual meets where points may be earned (ie, not at the Red, White, and Blue meet).

This policy was discussed in detail in an email sent by Marcynda Verdicchio on June 4, 2014.

Divisionals and Invitationals Meets
Please also keep in mind that to swim at our end-of-season Divisionals meet, a swimmer must swim in two dual meets AND have a legal time in each event swum. We really need as many of our swimmers as possible to enter the Divisional meet. Swimmers that are not usually point earners may earn points at Divisionals, as points are awarded for places 1-8.

Also, please remember that it is an Armada team rule that a swimmer who wishes to swim in the Invitational Meet must swim at Divisionals.

We appreciate your cooperation with the above requirements, which we feel emphasize the team nature of this mostly individual team sport.

If you have questions, please contact Marcynda Verdicchio.

Swim Meet Tips and Checklist

Here are a few important tips to make your swim meet experience successful:

tips Be on time. At the beginning of the meet the coaches will make changes to relay events if there are swimmers that are absent or missing. It is important that swimmers check-in with their pit parent to avoid being scratched from any relay event.
tips Bring nutritious snacks. The swim meets begin very early in the morning and last until noon or later. Please pack healthy snacks for your swimmers to eat such as fresh fruit, bagels, crackers, water, sports drinks, etc. We make an attempt to offer healthy items at the concession stand.
tips Pack appropriate supplies. Towels, sunscreen, goggles, etc - See checklist below...
tips Swimmers should stay in their pit areas. The Pit Parents are responsible for watching the swimmers in the pit area and getting them to the ready bench when it is time for their event. If your child is going somewhere with you, please let the pit parents know.
tips MARK EVERYTHING! Please write your child's name on ALL belongings. At the meet, you will be dozens of identical t-shirts, caps, goggles - plus similar towels, flip flips, sunscreen. Remember to mark any electronic games - they get mixed up!

Checklist:

Checklist 2 towels Checklist Water or sports drinks
Checklist Blanket to sit on in pit area Checklist Nutritious snacks
Checklist Warm clothes for after warm-up in early a.m. Checklist Quiet activities to keep them occupied in the pit area between races
Checklist Swim cap Checklist Sunblock
Checklist Goggles Checklist Parents: Bring a chair, wear a hat, apply sunblock!

Online Meet Entry (OME)

For every swim meet on our schedule, EVERY family MUST login to our website and register your swimmer for the meet. If your swimmer is not able to swim across the pool or you will be out-of-town and cannot participate, you should still login and and complete the form.

Please login to https://wellsbranch.swimtopia.com/swim_meets. You should see the name(s) of your swimmer(s) and the events for their age group(s).

You will be able to tell us if your swimmer(s) will not attend the meet or if they will not be available to swim either the early or the late relays for that meet.

We need each registered swimmer to fill out this form for each meet.
