Thank you everyone for an awesome meet on Saturday with the Stingrays!Swimmers had a great time and raced hard.Parents are looking like veterans in their volunteer positions and it’s only the second meet.We made it through the cold windy morning with a few raindrops and finished up in the warm bright sunshine. We had an away meet at home which is different.Through it all, everyone did whatever it took to help the swimmers have a great day.
Thank you! Thank you!Thank you!
We have lots of information in this newsletter – Swimathon and Raffle, Round Rock Express Swim Team Night and meet awards to name a few. Please take the time to read through the newsletter. We do pack a lot of info into it so we don’t have to send as many emails.
Have a great week! Swim Fast - Go Armada!
by Gina Zayas, Head Coach
Outstanding performance in all our swims this past weekend when we swam the Stingrays! You all are really improving and the hard work you are doing in practice definitely shows when you race on Saturdays. The coaches are looking forward to moving into a new training phase as we transition to morning practices. More consistent attendance helps the coaches plan workouts that will meet the abilities of all our swimmers.
In addition to our regular practices we will begin stroke clinics this Tuesday. Stroke clinics are offered Monday through Friday most weeks and begin after the 9/10-11 practice. Each session is 30 minutes and limited to 5 swimmers per session. The cost is $10 per swimmer and can be paid in cash directly to the coach at the time of the clinic. The clinic notebook will be located by the family folder boxes and will be out on Fridays, for the coming week. Please note sign-ups are first come, first serve.
We are going to have a sunny, no rain week of practice and I look forward to seeing everyone there. Keep working hard swimmers and have a great first week of summer!

You will hear me saying “Thank you!” over and over again throughout the season because we as a Board and as parents, really appreciate everyone stepping up as they do. We had several last minute scratches due to illness and other issues but people jumped in to fill the positions. The jobs were done!
In addition, the second half exchange between first shift and second shift volunteers appeared to go well and on time. The first half volunteers appreciate the timeliness of the second shift replacing them.
A shout out to the Pit Parents. Way to go! Y’all were on-time and in position for the kids to start arriving. In several pits, you may have been spread a little thin but you managed to get them marked and to the ready benches. Kudos to you!
This week we will be at our pool again and things will be back to normal, i.e., we host and are considered the home team. Therefore, we will need 100+ individuals from our team to have adequate staffing. As of Sunday morning, there are still 10 positions needing to be filled. A very high percentage (i.e. almost 100%) of swimmers’ families are already committed to volunteering so please consider a second parent helping out. Aggies where is that 12th man?
If you are interested in a position but unable to sign-up for it, let me know. I may have to flip some flags.
Thanks again for all the effort and time you put forth in having these meets be successful.

Hello Armada Families!
In addition to help at swim meets, the team has a few other activities that require volunteers. Please let Marcynda or Wesley know if you can help out with any of the following:
Swim-A-Thon: This is our annual FUNdraiser and will be held on Tuesday, June 14, with a rain-out date of Tuesday, June 21, 2016. There will be plenty of fun, and food for the entire family. We'll need help with set-up, sign-in, running the sno-cone and popcorn machines, handing out food, and tear-down. Please let Wesley know if you can help out during a shift.
July 4: The WBA participates in the Wells Branch July 4 Independence Day parade and festivities. This year, we could use a volunteer to help out with the float decorating and coordinating the parade effort. Please contact Wesley if you can help out!
Swim-a-thon: Tues, June 14
Our annual Swim-A-Thon will be held onTuesday, June 14. This is our primary FUNdraiser, with emphasis on the "fun," and the funds raised help us to keep our fees low and help us to purchase needed equipment.
Swimmers will receive a donation envelope in their family folder this week. We ask that each swimmer collect pledges per length of the pool or flat donations. As part of registration, each family has committed to get donations of at least $50. (There was an option to pay this online at registration, which many families did; up-front payment of the Swim-A-Thon fee covers your minimum obligation but does not prevent you from further participation in fundraising and prizes if you would like. If you are unsure if you have paid, please contact Mike Zayas.)
During the Swim-A-Thon, swimmers will be swimming laps and parents will bring chairs and sit pool side to count their swimmers' laps. Each team member will be entered in drawings for great door prizes! We will also kick off our raffle (see below), and provide free food and drinks for all family members! Due to insurance coverage, only Armada swimmers are allowed in the pool during Swim-A-Thon.
Finally, Swim-A-Thon is when we kick off our Raffle (drawings will happen and winners will be announced at Awards Night). Raffle items are coming in and more details of what we have and prices will be in next Monday's newsletter.
Thank you, and look forward to seeing you there!
RR Express Night - Get your tickets Now
Monday, June 27, 2016 the RR Express will take on the Colorado Springs Skysox.
To order submit the number of tickets you’d like to purchase via this form.
If you have questions, or cannot access the link, you can email Blake Scottwbasponsors@gmail.com with questions, or with your family name, and number of seating tickets / lawn tickets.
Tickets are $12 for seats, and $5.50 for the berm.
This is dollar hot dog and soda night – Wahoo!
For our new families, the June 27th Express game is Swim Team Night. All of the summer swim teams are invited and we get to parade around the baseball stadium before the game. The gates open at 5:30 pm. By 6:00 pm we need to be gathered under the Jumbo-tron to be escorted down for the parade. For those of you who have never walked around a baseball field, it's larger than you think and will give you a new perspective on the vast area that the players cover during a game. Parents are welcome to walk with their swimmers but do not have to. Coaches and Board Members will be walking with the team. Be sure to wear your Armada shirts!
The tickets we can purchase are discounted and pricing is reflected on the order form. If you have season tickets or have tickets to this game all ready, by all means, use them and come hang out with Armada. You may also purchase your tickets online directly from RR Express athttp://rrexpress.com
Deadline for Purchase is June 12th, 2016 – you must have the money to Mike Zayas before this date for your ticket to be purchased
The game will start promptly at 7:05 pm when our Express take on the Skysox!
End of Season Meets - Reminders
Hi Armada Parents and Swimmers!
High Point Earners
Just a friendly reminder that the Armada has a requirement that anyone receiving the high point award has swum all individual events offered for their age group for which they do not have to "swim up." To qualify, events must be swum at dual meets where points may be earned (ie, not at the Red, White, and Blue meet). Please note that the swimmer must have attempted the event in a dual meet, but need not have obtained a legal time (so if DQ'd, that counts as their attempt). Also, events entered at the rained out meet also count as their attempt, provided the swimmer is listed on the official attendance report posted here.
This policy is discussed in detail in this FAQ.
Divisionals and Invitationals
Please also keep in mind that to swim at our end-of-season Divisional meet, a swimmer must swim in two dual meets AND have a legal time in each event they enter at this meet. We really need as many of our swimmers as possible to enter the Divisional meet. Swimmers that are not usually point earners may earn points at the Divisional meet, as points are awarded for places 1-8.
Also, please remember that it is an Armada team rule that a swimmer who wishes to swim in the Invitational Meet must swim at the Divisional meet.
We appreciate your cooperation with the above requirements, which we feel emphasize the team nature of this mostly individual team sport.
Swim Meet Tips and Checklist
Here are a few important tips to make your swim meet experience successful:
|Be on time. At the beginning of the meet the coaches will make changes to relay events if there are swimmers that are absent or missing. It is important that swimmers check-in with their pit parent to avoid being scratched from any relay event.|
|Bring nutritious snacks. The swim meets begin very early in the morning and last until noon or later. Please pack healthy snacks for your swimmers to eat such as fresh fruit, bagels, crackers, water, sports drinks, etc. We make an attempt to offer healthy items at the concession stand.|
|Pack appropriate supplies. Towels, sunscreen, goggles, etc - See checklist below...|
|Swimmers should stay in their pit areas The Pit Parents are responsible for watching the swimmers in the pit area and getting them to the ready bench when it is time for their event. If your child is going somewhere with you, please let the pit parents know.|
|MARK EVERYTHING! Please write your child's name on ALL belongings. At the meet, you will be dozens of identical t-shirts, caps, goggles - plus similar towels, flip flips, sunscreen. Don't forget to mark any electronic games - they get mixed up!|
|2 towels||Water or sport's drinks|
|Blanket to sit on in pit area||Nutritious snacks|
|Warm clothes for after warm-up in early a.m.||Quiet activities to keep them occupied in the pit area between races|
|Goggles||Parents: Bring a chair, wear a hat, apply sunblock!|
