Captain's Corner

by Peter Mielcarek, President

CAPTAIN's LOG Greetings Armada Families! We had a phenomenal tri-meet this weekend against the Stingrays & the Tidal Waves. All the kids that attended swam their hearts out and we ended up taking 2 nd place over all!!!! WOOHOO!!!! Thank you to all of you that volunteered this past weekend, as your efforts helped us finish the meet an entire 45 minutes faster than projected. As a reminder Swim-A-Thon is right around the corner, June 13 th , and you should start to see the pledge envelopes in your family folders this week. Swim-A-Thon is our major fund raiser for the year, and is a great opportunity for the kids to come to the pool and eat some food and enjoy some treats as they swim their laps for their pledges.

We are now two meets into the season, and your kids are receiving all of their time improvement and placement ribbons they receive at each week’s meet. Please make sure that as your child(ren) get their ribbons from the folders, they check to make sure each ribbon has their name on it. Due to the amount of ribbons the volunteers place in the boxes on Saturday’s, some ribbons might get misfiled, and it is possible that kids take home ribbons meant for someone else and not even realize it. If you end up with a ribbon that is not yours, please place it in the family folder where it belongs.

This week is our first away meet of the season at Block House Creek, and below will be all the information you need regarding the meet. All you parents and kiddos are doing a great job of making this season fun and exciting, keep it up! See y’all at the pool this week!

Coach's Corner

by Gina Zayas, Head Coach

220!  That is the number of time improvements Armada swimmers earned this past Saturday. To have almost fifty percent of our total times be improvements is definitely something to celebrate. I have no doubt that this Saturday will hold much of the same. We have worked hard this week on racing technique and strategy, flip turns, breaststroke and many other skills. One of the parts I love most is what is happening outside the pool. We are becoming a team! On any given morning you can see a kickball games, card games, playground tag, etc. This is a great team I appreciate the support we receive from our parents and the board. Please continue to send me any questions or stop me at the pool. I'd love to talk with you.

Coach Gina

Volunteer Spot

by Wesley Freeman, Volunteer Coordinator

Hello Everyone,

Thank you to everyone who assisted my daughter, Bethany, during the tri-meet. I am unable to attend currently so she is putting the name tags together and signing the volunteers in for the meet. A thank you also to those who went the extra mile and filled in for those vacant positions while already having volunteered for another position. These meets would not be possibly without you.

As a reminder, always check in with the volunteer coordinator when you drop your kids off even if you are second or third shift volunteer. This ensures we are not hunting you down, calling your phone, making an announcement over the loud speaker, or asking your swimmers if you are present. It keeps the stress level minimized for the volunteer coordinator and the others who are depending on you to fill the position.

This next meet will be an away meet so we will need to transport some of our equipment. Currently, we only have one person signed up. We are needing one other person to help load the equipment on Friday night and return the equipment after the meet – preferably someone with a truck or large SUV. Pit Parents, you still need to be on-site and present for the children to check in at 6:00am.

Best Regards,

Tues, June 13 - Swim-A-Thon

Our annual Swim-A-Thon will be held at the Willow Bend Pool on this Tuesday, June 13 from 6:00pm - 8:30pm. This is our primary FUNdraiser, with emphasis on the "fun," and the funds raised help us to keep our fees low and help us to purchase needed equipment.

Swimmers received a donation envelope in their family folder this past week. We ask that each swimmer collect pledges per length of the pool or flat donations. As part of registration, each family has committed to get donations of at least $50. (There was an option to pay this online at registration, which many families did; up-front payment of the Swim-A-Thon fee covers your minimum obligation but does not prevent you from further participation in fundraising and prizes if you would like. If you are unsure if you have paid, please contact Mike Zayas.)

Please refer to the Swim-A-Thon letter for specific information regarding prizes awarded.

During the Swim-A-Thon, swimmers will be swimming laps and parents will bring chairs and sit pool side to count their swimmers' laps. Each team member will be entered in drawings for great door prizes! We will also kick off our raffle (see below), and provide free food and drinks for all family members! Due to insurance coverage, only Armada swimmers are allowed in the pool during Swim-A-Thon.

Finally, Swim-A-Thon is when we kick off our Raffle (drawings will happen and winners will be announced at Awards Night). Tickets are $2.00 each or 6 for $10.00 with the exception of the raffle for a 2017 Armada Registration. Raffle tickets for the registration will be $5.00 a piece.

Look for raffle items this year from: Schlitterbahn Waterparks and Resorts, Thirty-One Gifts, Wells Branch Armada, Round Rock Express, Cinemark, Spare Time, Schlotzsky’s, Pluckers, Outlaw Paintball, Urban Air, Gino’s Italian Restaurant (in Round Rock), Vida Green, Mary Kay and doTERRA Essential Oils!

Thank you, and look forward to seeing you there!
