Captain's Log

by Paul Wadehra, Meet Director

I hope everyone has dried off by now after Saturday's very wet swim meet!  I appreciate the way everyone hung in there through the thunder delay, constant rain, and (brief) power outage. We pulled it off and managed to have a successful meet in spite of it all.  Thanks to everyone for coming together as a team and making it happen!

Next week we go on the road to Anderson Mill (details below), another Division 1 team.  Arrival time is 6:30 at their pool. Swimming at a different venue is a good experience if you haven't done it before, and a great deal of fun. We need a full turnout for this meet (as we do for all meets) so let's show our Armada team spirit.

In this issue of the newsletter, in addition to the Gold Medal (first place) Winners, we will start showing Invitational Meet Qualifiers, Fast Fishy (largest time improvement) winners, and team record breakers, so be sure and look for your name in those sections!

Coach's Corner

by Gina Zayas, Head Coach

Wow!  What a crazy first meet!  Thank you to everyone who made it happen despite the rain and less than desirable conditions.  It was awesome to see so many swimmers have fun and swim spectacular races!  Looking through the results I saw a number of time improvements which is one of our top goals each week. There are two ways the swimmers are recognized for time improvements.  One is by the time improvement ribbons, which are awarded to a swimmer after each time improvement.  These ribbons will be in your family folder.  The second way is with the Fast Fishy award.  Each week there will be a boy and girl from each age group who will be given a Fast Fishy cap for dropping the most time at the meet.  Those awards will begin this week.   :-)

We are beginning our last full week of evening practices and the coaches have a good list of what we would like to focus and improve on in preparation of our meet this weekend against Anderson Mill.  Here is a list of our goals for this week:

  • Improve our Breastroke and Practice Pull-outs
  • Practice Backstroke Stroke Counts (how many strokes from the wall into the flags)
  • Learn/Practice Open turns and Flip turns
  • Improve Starts and Finishes

One of my responsibilities each week is to enter the events for the upcoming swim meet.  I take all swimmers meet entries and make sure we are balanced in all events.  This means that sometimes I will change one of your swimmers events.  If there are certain events that your swimmer is really wanting to do please let me know that. I will do my best to notify the swimmer at practice or through email about the event switch.

Let’s work hard this week!  Go Armada!

Volunteer Spot

 Hi Parents,

Wow, what a meet! In spite of the rain, everyone went above and beyond to make the meet a success, which makes me VERY happy!
I want to remind everyone that if you are unable to sign up for a volunteer position when you register your child(ren) for the meet, to please send me an email at That way I can place you in a position that still needs to be filled. (I sent an email out last week that explains why that happens, so if you missed it, please go back and read it.)
Thanks for all you do to make this a fun experience for our kids!
See you next week!

Anderson Mill Meet (June 1) - Away

Be sure to enter by noon Monday - May 27 using our OME system.

Our second meet is on the road, at Anderson Mill. We need as many swimmers as possible to participate in the dual meets because each swimmer is important to the team.

It is extremely important for new swimmers to experience swimming in a different pool with a different atmosphere. This is valuable experience and a lot of fun.

Relays are chosen by the coaches and we try to have as many swimmers as possible participate. Please recognize that if a swimmers signs up for a meet and then does not participate on Saturday, it may result in our having to scratch that relay team from the meet.

Please arrive on time. Late arrival could result in your swimmer being scratched from their relay.

Scratch: Once we close the meet online, email, or text to 512-659-1373 if you have to scratch.

tips Pack appropriate supplies.Towels, sunscreen, goggles, etc - See checklist below...
tips Swimmers should stay in their pit areas The Pit Parents are responsible for watching the swimmers in the pit area and getting them to the ready bench when it is time for their event. If your child is going somewhere with you, please let the pit parents know.
