Greetings Armada Families! I would like to start off by saying thank you to all the parents, swimmers, and volunteers that participated in the Red White & Blue meet. Your willingness to be there in spite of the weather, and your cooperation when it needed to be canceled was much appreciated. Now that that excitement's over, let's hope the weather will cooperate from here on out (at least on Saturday mornings).
Due to the hastiness with which we all had to leave the pool, a lot of items ended up in the lost and found at the pool, and some of you might have even accidentally ended up with extra items in your children’s bags. If you find any extra items in your children’s bags (shirts, caps, goggles, etc.), please bring them to the pool the next time you are at practice and place them in the Armada lost & found bin we keep by the Family Boxes, or hand them to a board member at the pool. Next week we host Balcones Country Club, again at our pool. The meet is open for sign-ups so please get it done by Monday's noon deadline (even if you're not able to make the meet, we still need you to sign in and let us know). I hope you and your kiddos are as excited as I am for our first dual meet of the season!!! See y’all at the pool!!
First Dual Meet: Wells Branch and Balcones Country Club are part of the Northwest Swim Circuit (NWSC), which is our swim league consisting of 13 teams divided into 4 divisions. It it should be fun and exciting, and good competition for the swimmers. You can read more about our swim league at https://nwsc.swimtopia.com.
Splash Day: Join the WB MUD (an Admiral-level sponsor of ours) at Splash Day; Sunday, May 28, from 12-4 pm at Katherine Fleischer Pool on Klattenhoff. See below for more information.
Carabiners are here: Check your family file folders for ribbons from this weekend's meet...and carabiners to help you keep them all in one place. Many swimmers place those ribbon-filled carabiners on their swim bags...and others use them to display on bulletin boards, etc.
We will not be having our regularly scheduled practice on Monday, 5/29, in observance of the Memorial Day holiday. Have a great weekend and see you Tuesday for practices, at your regularly scheduled time.
1. Sat, May 27, WBA vs BCC Sharks: We will be hosting the meet at our pool. Details below.
2. Sat, June 3 Meet (open for swimmer / volunteer job registration): Online Meet Entry tutorial (instructions) for the online meet entry are located under the resources tab or can be found here.

Congratulations and thank you to all the swimmers and parents who made it to our Red, White and Blue practice meet! The weather did not allow us to finish the entirety of the meet but, did hold out long enough to practice relays and the freestyle races. There was nervous excitement in the early morning air as swimmers swam their first race ever or their first of this season. In the end, the coaches are excited for the meets to come and anticipate a very successful Armada season!
As we approach our first official meet against BCC Sharks we will continue learning and practicing stroke technique as well as, starts and finishes. The older swimmers will also be focusing on longer events such as the long free and IM (individual medley). If you ever have any questions about what events to sign up for please feel free to stop and ask me or send me an email. I will respond as soon as possible.
Thank you for your continued support!
The Red White and Blue meet this year had to be the shortest meet we have had in a few years. Everyone stepped up and quickly helped clean up and tear down the meet so most of the parents and swimmers could exit the pool are prior the storm. Great job!
For the new parents and people stretching their old comfort zones, thank you for being good sports and volunteering for activities you weren’t really sure about. You filled some key roles and performed the tasks well.
If you are a Pit Parent please plan to arrive between 5:30am and 6:00am. Swimmers begin arriving at 6:00am. Their parents may have responsibilities elsewhere to begin the meet prep. They need to have a Pit Parent in the pit so they can leave and begin their tasks.
A couple of last minute notes. 1) Please check in with me once you arrive at the pool if you are volunteering. This check-in lets me know you are at the pool and recognize you have a position. 2) If you are volunteering for a second shift position, please arrive 30 minutes early. Sometimes the meets run ahead of time and thus you will be in position for a smooth transition of volunteers.
Thank you, and looking forward to Saturday's meet!
Balcones Country Club - May 27 (Home)
Our first Dual meet is this Saturday against the BCC Sharks. Each swimmer is allowed to enter up to three (3) individual events and notate if they are available for the freestyle and medley relays. Please arrive on time. Late arrival could result in your swimmer being scratched from their relay.
Scratch: Once we close the meet online, email firstname.lastname@example.org, or text to 512-659-1373 if you have to scratch.

Meet Set-up: Friday, May 26 at 6:30 pm
* Meet setup will start at 6:30 pm for this meet. We must move all tables and chairs and put out ready benches, ropes and the announcer tables. If you signed up as part of the setup team for your volunteer assignment, or if you'd like to lend an extra hand, please be at the pool then.
* The morning of the meet, we need help setting up pop-up tents around the pool. We appreciate all the help we can get putting these tents up and taking them down at the end of the day.
We ask everyone to clean up the pit and pool areas before they leave. We must return the pool area to its original condition. The more people who help, the sooner everyone can leave. Pit parents should not release swimmers until their area is restored.
Friendly reminder for our new families, for home meets, the parking lot adjacent to our pool is for our guest team. Additional parking will be along Sauls and Crissom next to the pool and the elementary school, and on the street on Long Vista. Please do NOT park along Bratton or in any of the parking lots for businesses you see along Bratton and Long Vista, as you will risk being towed. There will be overflow parking at the Rec Center on Shoreline Dr., but it is a small hike from there to the pool.
Please allow extra time to find a place to park and potentially walk a fair distance to the pool. You may also wish to drop swimmers off and then go find parking.
Concessions Donations: Also, please note that for each home meet, a certain age group (or groups) is asked to bring concessions donations to help our concessions stand provide low-cost, nutritional snacks for the swimmers at a reasonable price. The preferred donation is fruit, since this is something that the concessions volunteers cannot pre-purchase or store easily and is in high demand at meets.

Scholarship applications will be distributed shortly to all eligible recipients.
We need volunteers to serve on the scholarship committee. The scholarship documents state that a Board member or parent of a swimmer in their age-out year may not serve on the committee, which means everyone else can! To serve, you will need to be available to meet in late June to make a decision and communicate to the Board prior to the awards ceremony.
Please contact Brenda Pinkston if you are interested in serving on the committee or have any other questions about the WBA scholarships.
